A Certified Anti Terrorism Specialist, Publisher and Patron of Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism, Insurgency, and Terrorism (BRAVEIT), Dr Abubakar Sani has extolled the efforts of the Nigerian Navy in tackling the security situation bedevilling the country’s maritime.

Dr. Sani stated this on Tuesday in Abuja at a press conference on counterterrorism and maritime safety under Buhari: commendations for the Nigerian Navy, saying that commendation should be given to whoever deserves it.

He said the activities of the Nigerian Navy in the Northeast have led to many insurgents surrendering their heinous acts, bringing relative peace to the region, which was hitherto under the grip of criminal elements.

Dr Sani stated that the Nigerian Navy is the best on the African continent while commending the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, on his unique leadership qualities in the Nigerian Navy.

He said, “The Nigerian Navy is one of the best in Africa.” So to me personally, their performance so far is just excellent. “The Chief of Naval Staff is doing well, and we are asking him to do more.”

He claimed that the Nigerian Navy’s stick-to-stick approach produced no positive results, so he implemented the carrot approach, which he claimed produced positive results.

He said, “At the moment, we are trying to see the kinetic approach to use.” There is a need to employ a non-creative approach, namely the carrot, rather than the stick-to-stick approach.

Dr. Sani challenged everyone to help him eliminate insecurity in the Northeast and throughout the country. “Locals, everyone has a role to play.” “When you see something, say something, and you must always stand up and show that this is where you belong.”

Asked about the rationale behind BRAVEIT, Dr Sani said it is aimed at helping communities to take a stand against terrorism, insurgency and banditry, and to identify with the government at the security level everybody must contribute.
