Murder of Timothy Oludare: A Call for Thorough Investigation, Justice

It is no longer news that one Timothy Adegoke Oludare, a Chartered Accountant and Director of Finance in a Multinational Company in Abuja who traveled down to Ile-Ife in Osun state to write his MBA examination at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), was allegedly murdered in his hotel room where he lodged.

Oludare was declared missing by his family after he left Abuja on Friday 5th November 2021 to Akure airport to Ile-Ife and later lodged at Hilton Hotel. The deceased’s wife was said to have raised the alarm when she could not reach her husband the next day on the phone.

A family source who said a report was made at the police station added that the hotel at first denied the deceased ever lodged at the hotel.

In the process of searching for him by the anti-kidnapping team from Osogbo, it was established that he lodged in Hilton hotel and the hotel management murdered him at midnight with evidence showed his body was wrapped with hotel blanket and bed sheet and buried at the upper side of the hotel in Ife.

It was reported that when the police visited the hotel, the receptionist denied admitting the deceased into the hotel, but a transfer payment was traced to her account that Timothy paid for 2 nights in the hotel and receipt was issued to him.

The manifest and receipt of the hotel was reportedly doctored with a page number receipt for Timothy removed from the booklet.

Reports further indicate that the receptionist was supposed to close at 12noon but called another staff to take over duty at 8am, that she had an emergency call at Ejigbo. Her phone and Timothy’s phone were tracked to Ejigbo and eventually picked up by the police, after which she pleaded with the police that she was ready to confess everything that happened

It was at her instance that all principal actors were mentioned and apprehended, including the Chairman of the hotel, Chief Ramon Adedoyin.

According to Oludare’s elder brother, this was not the first time a case similar to that of his brother was happening in the hotel, as reports have it that his brother’s case was the seventh case. He also revealed that Chief Adedoyin sent a lawyer from Ile Ife to Oshogbo to meet with him to bribe him and pervert the investigation process and also arrange a meeting, which he refused.

However, detectives from Osun State Police Command supported by the team of Inspector General of Police from Zone 11 are working round the clock to determine the level of involvement of Chief Adedoyin and six other persons already arrested in connection with the heinous crime.

The police, through the State Police Commissioner, Wole Tokede has reassured the public that the matter will not be swept under the carpet that the command would ensure that there is justice.

A statement made by another cousin of the deceased, Mr. Lekan Hassan who has known him since his childhood said that his concern is just to let justice take its course as the incident has already happened and nobody can do anything about it.

It is on this note that the police and other relevant authorities are urged to carry out a thorough investigation into the killing and ensure that justice is served.
