Patience Key, the former Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA) Board of Directors, has entered the presidential race by acquiring Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) expression of interest and nomination forms.

Key told reporters shortly after receiving her nomination forms at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday that she would focus on addressing insecurity, poverty, and injustice.

Her supporters from several states escorted her to the PRP secretariat.

The three agendas, according to Key, are in conformity with the PRP’s constitution and programs.

Key, who was the first to receive the party’s presidential nomination form, has promised to combat inequality in the country, including gender bias against women and marginalization, which has led to calls for secession from various political parties.

Key stated that she chose to run on the PRP platform because the party possessed the ideology and structures needed to win elections in the 36 states, the FCT, and the 777 local governments.

Key thanked Nigerians both at home and abroad for contributing to the purchase of her nomination forms, saying that such a gesture has galvanised her to run, adding that “nothing can stop me.”

Babatunde Ali, the national secretary of PRP, guaranteed all hopefuls that the party’s presidential candidate would emerge from free, fair, and legitimate primaries.

In his words, “Our circular is already out. Our guideline is already out and it is going to be by indirect voting. Delegates are going to vote and whoever wins, I can guarantee you, PRP will give it to that person.

“In our party, the first principle is value and quality of human beings. It does not matter if she is a woman. If she wins she will have it.”

Ali encouraged aspirants running on the PRP platform to avoid running manifestos that contradicted the party’s documents.

According to him, the documents comprise the constitution, programmes, and principles of PRP, all of which are “always together.”

He also asked the candidates to respect the party’s supremacy at all times.
