Security Fund chairman urges adequate funding for Anambra vigilance group

Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, Chairman, Anambra State Security Trust Fund, has called on corporate bodies and good-spirited individuals in the state to assist in funding the state’s vigilance group.

Anyaegbu who made the call in Awka on Tuesday when he visited the Chairman, Anambra Vigilance Group, (AVG), Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, said the group required adequate funding to perform effectively.

He described the AVG as a grassroots security outfit that required the support of every stakeholder to deliver on its mandate of protecting the people.

“All of us must contribute in one way or the other to support the outfit; the rich among us have more crucial roles to play.

“The operatives need our support and cooperation apart from funding; they also need intelligence information that will enable them to effectively perform their duties,’’ he said.

Aduba earlier commended Anyaegbu for the visit and genuine concerns for the security of lives and property in the state.

He said that the economic situation in the country had led to increased crime and insecurity, adding: “we all have to work towards protecting our communities and the state at large.

“We have no excuse. It is our duty to tackle crime and criminal elements in our communities; this consciousness must begin from the family level.

“As a group, AVG has commenced aggressive patrols around the state. It will not spare anyone found wanting; parents should caution their children against involvement in the crime.’’
