Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA) / Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have successfully rescued seven victims who were abducted on August 3, 2025, along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road by suspected kidnappers.
The rescue, which followed a well-coordinated search and rescue operation conducted on Tuesday, August 5 and Wednesday, August 6, saw troops engage the kidnappers in a fierce encounter. Overwhelmed by the army’s superior firepower and sustained pressure, the criminals reportedly fled the scene, abandoning their captives.
According to a statement from the Brigade, four victims were rescued unhurt from Chinkai Forest on August 5, while the remaining three female victims were found and freed the next day in Owedi Community, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The military described the operation as a demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and maintaining security across Taraba State.
Commander of 6 Brigade NA / Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their courage and professionalism during the mission.
“This operation is a significant success in the ongoing fight against criminality,” he said. “We remain committed to sustaining aggressive operations to curb kidnapping and protect lives and property across the state.”
The rescue has been hailed as a major morale booster in the army’s campaign against banditry and kidnapping in the North-East and North-Central regions.
