Power outage: Zulum supports TCN, YEDC to restore electricity in Borno

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno state has supported the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) to restore electricity in Borno.

Boko Haram destroyed one of the towers along Damaturu/Maiduguri road near Jakana with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on January 25, 2021.

Since then, Maiduguri metropolis, the Borno state capital plunged into darkness for three weeks.

Residents and the state government are currently relying on electric generators, while business activities are grounded for three weeks for welders, ice blocks and cold water sellers.

While lamenting incessant attacks on power lines, he said: “The disruption of electricity supply by terrorists has pluged us into darkness.

“How long could we be relying on electric generators? Some of the people cannot even afford the fuel to power it not talk of buying any of the generators.

“This is why I’m here at the destroyed power tower, so that it could be fixed to restore electricity to Borno.”

He directed the Commissioner of Housing and Energy, Saleh Yuguda to liaise with TCN and YEDC to restore electricity immediately after fixing the electric tower.

Government officials were also yesterday sighted and working tirelessly to restore electricity to the metropolis.  

Meanwhile, Zulum said that temporary measures would be put in place to restore electricity; while the State Government collaborates with TCN and YEDC for a permanent solution.

His words: “You have seen the level of destruction, the insurgents used IEDs to destroy this tower.

“We’re here to see things for ourselves. With God’s will; we will fast track the process of fixing the damaged electric tower.”
