The graduates, who had previously surrendered to security forces, completed months of structured rehabilitation aimed at deradicalisation, vocational training, psychological support, and civic reorientation. Authorities say the programme is designed to prepare former combatants for peaceful reintegration into society.
Operation Safe Corridor, established as a non-kinetic component of Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy, focuses on offering a pathway away from violent extremism for individuals willing to renounce insurgency. Officials noted that the initiative continues to expand its reach as more participants complete the programme.
During the graduation ceremony, military and government representatives emphasized that the success of the DRR initiative lies not only in disarmament but in long-term reintegration support, including skills acquisition and community engagement.
Security authorities also reaffirmed that participation in the programme does not absolve individuals of responsibility for serious crimes, stressing that due process remains central to national security efforts.
Community leaders and stakeholders have been urged to support reintegration efforts, with officials highlighting that sustainable peace requires a balance of military action, rehabilitation, and community-based reconciliation.
The latest graduation brings the total number of beneficiaries under Operation Safe Corridor to several hundreds since its inception, reflecting continued efforts to address insurgency through both force and rehabilitation.
