2023 Senatorial race: Goje must run – Gombe stakeholders insist

Political stakeholders in Gombe state have beckoned on senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje to come out of retirement and re-contest for the fourth term, the senatorial seat of Gombe Central in 2023.

Recall that Senator Goje had in December 2019 made a verbal retirement when he said he would not contest any future elections.

However, the political stakeholders during an occasion to appeal to the senator to re-contest the 2023 senatorial seat insisted that there was no reason for Senator Goje not to return to the Red Chambers in 2023 as there were senators who are serving fourth and even fifth tenure in such office.

They made their submission on Saturday in Akko Township Stadium while unveiling Goje’s legacy of service as a former minister, governor and senator in Kumo, Akko LGA of the state amidst massive cheers from grassroots members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senator Joshua Lidani, a former Deputy Governor of Gombe state, submitted that Senator Goje’s political goodwill had benefitted not only Gombe state but the entire Northeast and beyond.

A member of the House of Representatives, Aishatu Jibril Dukku (APC, Dukku/ Nafada), while addressing grassroots APC supporters said Senator Goje has contributed immensely to the development of Gombe State, North-East and the country at large.

Dukku popularly called “Mama” added that Senator Goje was too good a political resource to retire and “we will not allow that because we still need his guidance to help mentor others to ensure good governance and representation.”

The highlight of the event was when Hon. Abubakar Barambu, Chairman of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State “threatened” to sue Senator Danjuma Goje if the senator insists on retiring from seeking re-election in 2023.

Barambu said efforts to make Senator Goje seek re-election in 2023 was a collective resolve of the people of his constituents and the voice of the majority of his people.
