In a statement released on Tuesday, Durkwa urged voters to abandon what he described as the “old tradition” of exchanging their votes for short-term financial or material benefits, stressing that such practices weaken democracy and limit long-term development.
“Selling our votes means compromising our future,” the aspirant said. “We must stop trading our collective destiny for small, temporary gains and begin to support leaders who are genuinely committed to the welfare of the people.”
Durkwa emphasized the need for issue-based politics, calling on voters to prioritize policies that address education, healthcare, job creation, infrastructure, and sustainable economic growth. According to him, responsible leadership begins with informed and principled choices at the ballot box.
He noted that Adamawa’s progress depends on leaders who are accountable and focused on both present needs and future generations, adding that citizens also have a duty to protect the integrity of the electoral process.
As political activities gradually build toward the 2027 general elections, Durkwa’s remarks add to growing calls by political actors and civil society groups for credible elections and increased voter awareness across the state.
