DHQ dispels army attack on Gov Yahaya Bello
Defence Headquarters has refuted reports that its personnel attacked Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi State, on Sunday.
While traveling from Lokoja, the state capital, to Abuja for an official engagement, Bello had reported that he was the target of an assassination attempt a few kilometres away from the capital.
According to a statement made by the state’s commissioner of information, Kingsley Fanwo, the attackers, who were clad in military uniforms, stopped the governor’s convoy and began firing intermittently at his car as well as other vehicles in the group.

However, some people misinterpreted the phrase to mean that the governor was attacked by some unidentified soldiers.
Dispelling the claim, the Director, Defence Information, Defence Headquarters, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, in an interview with newsmen, said Bello’s attackers were criminals clad in fake military uniforms.
Gusau urged the police to investigate the matter and ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
He said, “The attack is unfortunate and we are not happy with what happened. However, the governor did not say it was the military that attacked him. Military personnel will never attack the governor. He said his attackers were in military uniforms. His attackers are criminals. We urged the police to investigate the matter and unravel the circumstances and those involved in the attack.”
