In a powerful keynote address, delivered at the National Youth Security Summit held in Abuja on Thursday 29 of February 2024 the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa OFR emphasised the imperative need for collaboration in tackling Nigeria’s multifaceted security challenges. The summit, organized by the Green Assembly Initiative and various youth organisations, delved into the theme of ‘Curbing Insecurity in Nigeria: Achieving a Robust and Sustainable Economy for a New Nigeria Youth Inclusivity in Nation Building.’

General Musa acknowledged the dynamic nature of security challenges facing Nigeria, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, clashes, cultism, and more. He stressed the necessity of a paradigm shift towards a collaborative, multi-agency approach, highlighting the importance of youth involvement. The Chief of Defence Staff emphasised the youth’s role in intelligence gathering, community engagement, and technological integration for enhanced security measures.

Also speaking, the National President of the Green Assembly Initiative, Comrade Duke Alamboye echoed these sentiments, underlining the interconnectedness of national security and prosperity. He commended the dedication of various stakeholders, including the government, military, and civil society, in addressing the nation’s security concerns. The proposal to enlist 775,000 youth volunteers from local governments for intelligence gathering and support to security agencies garnered attention as a proactive step to engage unemployed youth.

The summit, held at the NAF Conference Centre and Suites in Abuja, drew distinguished guests, including the National Security Adviser, Honourable Ministers, Governors, Royal Fathers, Service Chiefs, and security agency heads. The event aimed not only to acknowledge progress but also to propose innovative strategies for curbing insecurity, fostering national unity, and ensuring a safer, more stable Nigeria.
