2027: Labour Party Denies Alliance with Tinubu, Challenges Critics for Proof

The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed a viral video on social media suggesting that its leadership is collaborating with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, reiterated that the LP remains firmly in opposition and has no alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“As a matter of fact, the Labour Party is the most visible opposition party as of today, and our National Chairman, Barrister Abure, is the leading voice in the opposition camp,” Ifoh said.
“He has been most critical of the present government, continuously critiquing its policies, proffering solutions, and advising the government,” he added.
Ifoh highlighted the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen democracy in Nigeria, including the creation of an Electoral Reform Committee to promote credible and transparent leadership selection.
He also mentioned the party’s innovative political education initiatives and its groundbreaking e-membership registration platform, which has already attracted thousands of subscribers.
“These efforts are aimed at repositioning the party, making it even more relevant in the political landscape. For someone to attempt to demarket such a party with unfounded claims is most ridiculous and unfortunate,” he said.
The Labour Party specifically challenged social commentator Deji Adeyanju, who made the allegations, to provide evidence of any collaboration with President Tinubu or the APC.
“We are, therefore, challenging Deji Adeyanju and any other person to come up with facts and proofs that either the party leadership or Mr. Abure intends to work for President Bola Tinubu or his party, the APC, in 2027,” Ifoh stated.
He described Adeyanju’s claims as “criminal defamation” and demanded an immediate retraction and public apology.
“As a political party, we view Deji Adeyanju’s now-viral comments as a clearly motivated ploy to ridicule our hard-earned reputation,” Ifoh added.
“He has a choice to withdraw his assertions and apologise to the leadership and millions of members of Labour Party for the great harm he has caused.”
The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to holding the government accountable and championing the values of fairness and transparency in Nigeria’s political system.
