Protests Erupt in South Africa Over Nigerian Chief’s Controversial Coronation
Members of the Progressive Forces of South Africa, representing concerned civic groups and citizens, staged a protest outside the Nigerian Embassy in Pretoria following the contentious installation of Nigerian chief Solomon Ogbonna Eziko as an “Igbo King” in KuGompo, Eastern Cape.

The demonstration comes after videos and photos circulated widely on social media showing Eziko being crowned “Igwe Ndigbo” of KuGompo City, sparking public outrage.
Provincial authorities and cultural experts have condemned the coronation, describing it as unlawful and a violation of established customary protocols.
Protesters called on both South African and Nigerian authorities to investigate the matter and ensure respect for traditional processes and local governance.
