Nigerian Army Reshuffles Senior Officers, Appoints New Commanders Across Key Formations

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved a major reshuffling of senior officers across key operational, command, training and staff appointments in the Nigerian Army as part of efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen national security.

The redeployment affects several field commanders, commandants of military institutions and principal staff officers at Army Headquarters, reflecting the Army’s ongoing drive to improve readiness and address evolving security challenges across the country.

Under the new appointments, Major General WM Dangana has been named General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, succeeding Major General EF Oyinlola.

Similarly, Major General EI Okoro has been appointed GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, taking over from Major General EE Emeka.

Major General JR Lar has been posted as Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola assumes office as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri will continue to serve as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

As part of efforts to strengthen operational leadership, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been appointed Commander, Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K Rabiu takes command of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.

In a move highlighting the Army’s increasing focus on technology and emerging security threats, Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command. Major General O Adegbe has also been named Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.

The reshuffle also affected key military training institutions. Major General KE Chigbu has been appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.

Major General SO Adejimi has been appointed Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, while Major General FS Etim assumes duty as Chief of Training at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA).

Brigadier General U Ahmad has also been appointed Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

In the area of military-related corporate management, Major General KO Ukandu has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited (PHDL), while Major General AI Allison takes over as Managing Director of Defence Properties Limited.

Lieutenant General Shaibu charged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism and innovation.

He urged them to remain committed to the Nigerian Army’s constitutional responsibilities of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, protecting its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security.

The Army leadership stated that the redeployments form part of its broader transformation agenda aimed at building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of responding effectively to both current and future security challenges.

The appointments take immediate effect.
