Nigerian Student Wins International Qur’an Memorisation Competition in Jordan
A 19-year-old Nigerian student, Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi from Gombe State, has emerged as the overall winner of the 18th Women’s International Hashemite Competition for Memorisation of the Holy Qur’an held in Jordan.
Dan’azumi secured first place in the Full Qur’an Memorisation with Tajwid category, scoring an outstanding 99.5 out of 100 to outperform about 40 contestants representing between 38 and 39 countries.
Her victory has earned Nigeria international recognition in one of the world’s most prestigious Qur’anic competitions for women, highlighting the country’s growing reputation for excellence in Islamic scholarship.
At the time of her achievement, Dan’azumi was a 200-level Botany student at Gombe State University, successfully balancing her academic studies with years of intensive Qur’an memorisation and recitation.
The Women’s International Hashemite Competition brings together accomplished female Qur’an memorizers from across the globe to compete in various categories of memorisation and recitation based on accuracy, fluency and mastery of Tajwid.
Dan’azumi’s exceptional performance has been widely celebrated as a testament to her dedication, discipline and commitment to Islamic learning.
