Tinubu Approves Upgrade of Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa to University of Mining, Engineering, Technology

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the upgrade of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, to the Federal University of Mining, Engineering and Technology, Nasarawa, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capacity in mining, engineering and technological innovation.

The approval is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to develop specialised tertiary institutions that will produce skilled professionals to support the country’s solid minerals sector, industrialisation and technological advancement.

The new university is expected to focus on training highly qualified manpower in mining, engineering, technology, innovation and related disciplines to meet the growing demands of Nigeria’s mining and industrial sectors.

The upgrade also aligns with the Federal Government’s broader education reform agenda, which seeks to expand access to specialised higher education, promote research and innovation, and position Nigeria as a leading centre for mining research, engineering and technological development.

Stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a landmark achievement for Nasarawa State and a major boost to higher education, scientific research, job creation and economic growth.

They noted that the institution is expected to contribute significantly to developing the skilled workforce required to harness Nigeria’s vast solid mineral resources and accelerate national industrial development.

The Federal Government is expected to provide further details on the transition process, academic structure, implementation timeline and commencement of programmes at the newly established university.
