Troops Intercept Truck Loaded with Illicit Drugs Along Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road
Troops of the 65 Battalion, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a truck conveying a large consignment of suspected illicit drugs along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, following credible intelligence on the movement of the illegal shipment.
The intelligence-led operation was carried out on 9 July 2026, resulting in the successful interception of the vehicle and the arrest of its driver.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State. However, the driver reportedly failed to provide satisfactory information regarding the ownership of the consignment or its intended recipient.
In accordance with standard operating procedures, the suspect and the recovered exhibits were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The handover was conducted by the Commanding Officer of 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
Reacting to the operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and operational efficiency.
He urged the personnel to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and intensify efforts to deny drug traffickers and other criminal elements freedom of operation within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.
The successful interception, according to the Army, underscores the continued commitment of the Nigerian Army to supporting law enforcement agencies in combating illicit drug trafficking and other forms of organised crime across the country.
