Gombe Nears Completion of Solar Mini-Grid to Restore Electricity to Tallase, Swa After 15 Years
The Gombe State Government has reached 95 per cent completion of a one-megawatt solar mini-grid project designed to restore electricity to Tallase and Swa communities in Balanga Local Government Area, ending more than 15 years without public power supply.
The project, being executed through the Joint Projects Development Agency (JPDA), was initiated by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as part of his administration’s commitment to expanding rural electrification, revitalising local economies and improving the living standards of residents in underserved communities.
According to the state government, the solar-powered facility is expected to provide reliable and sustainable electricity that will stimulate commercial activities, enhance agricultural productivity, support small businesses and improve access to essential services.
For over a decade, residents of Tallase and Swa have lived without public electricity, a situation that has affected socio-economic development in the communities.
With the project now nearing completion, the communities are expected to benefit from a stable, clean and affordable power supply that will drive economic growth and improve livelihoods.
The state government also disclosed that the initiative forms part of a broader rural electrification programme under which 52 additional communities across Gombe State are scheduled to benefit from similar solar mini-grid projects.
The programme is aimed at expanding access to renewable energy while supporting inclusive development, reducing energy poverty and promoting sustainable economic growth across the state.
The project underscores the Gombe State Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring that more rural communities have access to reliable electricity through clean energy solutions.
