Speaking during the visit, Barau expressed appreciation to the Senegalese President for the honour and described his presence at the Parliament as significant to the regional integration process.

He said the visit demonstrated the importance President Faye attaches to dialogue and cooperation among ECOWAS institutions, particularly the role of Parliament in building a regional community that is closer to its citizens.

According to Barau, sustained engagement between the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government and the Parliament would strengthen the coherence of regional actions, improve representation of citizens’ aspirations and promote greater ownership of the integration process.

He added that the visit would encourage further reflection on strengthening the role of the ECOWAS Parliament and deepening its relationship with citizens across the region.

Barau wished President Faye success in his responsibilities as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, while reaffirming the Parliament’s commitment to advancing regional integration and citizen participation.
