AANI Mourns Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni (Rtd)
The President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, alongside the National Executive Council (NEC), Executive Committee (EXCO), and the entire AANI membership, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of one of its most distinguished founding members, Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Rtd).
In a statement signed by Brig. Gen. SK Usman (Rtd), AANI’s National Publicity Secretary, and released in Abuja on Friday.
The association described Useni’s demise as a monumental loss to his family, AANI, Plateau State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the nation as a whole.
Lt. Gen. Useni passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Paris at the age of 82.
As a founding member and a former President of AANI, Lt. Gen. Useni’s leadership from 1994 to 1999 significantly shaped the association’s legacy. His visionary efforts led to the establishment of AANI’s National Secretariat in Maitama, Abuja, which now stands as a symbol of his dedication to the association’s growth and national impact.
Lt. Gen. Useni’s illustrious career spanned key roles, including serving as the Minister of Transport, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Military Governor.
