Dubai, UAE — African cultural leaders, including Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa-Musawa, joined global stakeholders at the official opening of ICOM Dubai 2025, hosted by the UAE National Committee of the International Council of Museums (@uaemcy). The landmark gathering brought together museum professionals, policymakers, scholars, and innovators to discuss “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.”

The summit began with high-level dialogues centered on the evolving role of museums as dynamic spaces for intangible heritage preservation, youth engagement, and the integration of emerging technologies into cultural management. Speakers emphasized the urgent need for museums to remain adaptable, community-driven, and responsive to global shifts.

Attending the event, Hannatu Musa-Musawa joined discussions highlighting Africa’s rich heritage and the necessity of safeguarding cultural identity in the face of globalization. “As we engaged with global experts, we amplified Africa’s voice in advocating for stronger cultural preservation policies, platforms that empower communities, and innovative approaches that blend technology with tradition,” the delegation noted.

The conference also explored how museums can harness the creativity and influence of young people, ensuring they evolve into inclusive spaces that capture diverse narratives while embracing digital transformation.

ICOM Dubai 2025 stands as a major step forward for global cultural cooperation, providing Africa with new pathways to strengthen international partnerships dedicated to protecting heritage and advancing sustainable development.
