Aliko Dangote Takes Former NMDPR Boss Farouk Ahmed to EFCC Over Alleged Misconduct
Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, has formally filed a complaint against Farouk Ahmed, the former head of Nigeria’s National Petroleum Marketing Company (NMDPR), with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Nigerian media reports, Dangote submitted the complaint at the EFCC headquarters, following earlier legal actions against Farouk at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The previous case concerned allegations that Farouk misappropriated $5 million intended for his children’s secondary education in Switzerland.
Sources suggest that these allegations may have influenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to remove Farouk from his official position.
In recent developments, Dangote withdrew his complaint from the ICPC, though the commission stated that it would continue its investigation. According to a statement from the Dangote Group, the withdrawal was intended to facilitate the filing of a fresh complaint before the EFCC.
Dangote’s complaint requests that the EFCC investigate Farouk Ahmed for alleged misconduct and abuse of office and prosecute him in court if found guilty.
