Allegations Rock FCT Police Command as Minister Umahi Linked to Detention Dispute

Tension flared at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja following allegations involving the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and a detained woman over a long-standing financial dispute.

According to accounts from individuals present at the command, a confrontation occurred inside a conference room where the minister was reportedly meeting with police officials in relation to allegations made against him by Mrs. TracyNither Nicolas Ohiri.

Ohiri, a married woman, was allegedly arrested in Lagos on claims of “cyberbullying,” transferred to Abuja, and detained at the FCT Command. Her reported accusation centers on an alleged unpaid debt of N250 million dating back more than 12 years — a matter observers argue falls within the realm of civil litigation rather than criminal prosecution.

Sources claim that after her detention, police authorities facilitated a meeting at the command headquarters where the minister was present. It was further alleged that tensions escalated during the encounter before the meeting was abruptly ended.

Following the minister’s departure, requests for bail or release were reportedly declined, with claims that further remarks were made as he exited the premises.

As of press time, there has been no official statement from the police authorities or the Minister of Works addressing the allegations. The incident has sparked debate over due process, the criminalization of civil disputes, and the role of law enforcement in matters involving public office holders.

Further updates are expected as more details emerge.
