In a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed that 12 personnel of the Nigerian Army are currently undergoing court martial proceedings in connection with the tragic bombing incident at Tudun Biri in Kaduna State.
The incident, which occurred on December 3, 2023, resulted in the unintended loss of 85 civilian lives due to military drone attacks in Tudun Biri, located in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Maj-Gen. Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to ensuring accountability for the incident, stating, “The military has conducted a painstaking investigation into the incident and has initiated disciplinary action against those culpable.”
He further added, “Accordingly, the affected personnel are to face a court martial for acts of omission or commission with respect to the incident.”
While addressing the media, Maj-Gen. Buba refrained from delving into specific details of the case, citing its ongoing legal proceedings. “I am however constrained not to speak much about the incident as it would be adjudged as prejudicial being a case before court martial,” he stated.
Highlighting the military’s commitment to preventing such incidents in the future, Maj-Gen. Buba assured, “The military will take extra precautions in the future to ensure that non-combatants are safe.”
The revelation of the court martial proceedings underscores the seriousness with which the Nigerian military is approaching the incident, reaffirming its dedication to upholding justice and accountability in its operations.
