8 Division GOC Strengthens Security in Sokoto, Assures Kebbe Communities of Army Presence
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgha Paul Koughna, has conducted an operational assessment visit to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State and surrounding communities following renewed security threats linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group.
The visit was prompted by reports of a recent attack on Ungushi community in Kebbe LGA, as the Nigerian Army moves to strengthen its security architecture and prevent further terrorist infiltration along vulnerable communities bordering Sokoto and Kebbi states.
During the assessment tour, Major General Koughna engaged community leaders and residents to assess the security situation firsthand and listen to their concerns.
The GOC reassured the communities that troops remain fully deployed, alert and operationally focused on protecting lives and property in the affected areas.
He stressed that the Army would respond swiftly and decisively to emerging threats, while denying terrorist elements the opportunity to establish safe havens or operational footholds in the region.
Major General Koughna also urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear, assuring them that security forces are firmly on the ground to safeguard the communities.
He called for stronger cooperation between residents and security personnel, particularly through the prompt sharing of credible and actionable intelligence on suspicious movements and activities.
According to the GOC, community cooperation remains vital to the early detection, disruption and dismantling of terrorist networks before they can carry out attacks.
The assessment visit underscores the Nigerian Army’s renewed efforts to strengthen security operations, protect vulnerable communities and prevent the expansion of terrorist activities across the Sokoto-Kebbi border areas.
