The 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have graduated the pioneer batch of 17 Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (CSK) crewmen as part of efforts to strengthen operational readiness and improve mobility in ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations across Nigeria’s North-West.

The graduation ceremony, held at the 8 Division Training School, marked a significant milestone in the Division’s drive to enhance the tactical capabilities of frontline troops through specialised combat vehicle training.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the training was designed to equip personnel with the skills required to effectively operate advanced combat support vehicles, improve troop mobility and enhance battlefield effectiveness.

Addressing the graduating crewmen, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North-West), Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, described CSK operators as vital assets in modern military operations, noting that their ability to position gunners strategically provides a significant tactical advantage during combat.

He stressed that operating sophisticated military platforms demands both technical competence and the right mindset, adding that continuous training remains essential for maintaining operational effectiveness.

Major General Koughna said specialised CSK training has become increasingly important in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry in the North-West, urging the graduates to apply their newly acquired knowledge professionally in their respective units.

The GOC also announced a special monthly allowance for the trained personnel as an incentive to promote professionalism, commitment and excellence.

Earlier, the Course Coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Edidion Okonnah, said the intensive training programme was initiated by the GOC to improve force protection, strengthen troop mobility and ensure uninterrupted operational support within the 8 Division Area of Responsibility.

He explained that the 17 participants, drawn from different formations, underwent comprehensive theoretical and practical training covering military vehicle systems, CSK components and capabilities, driving techniques, highway safety regulations, vehicle inspection, tyre replacement and combat recovery procedures.

The event featured a practical driving demonstration by the newly trained crewmen, who showcased their tactical awareness, precision and vehicle handling skills before receiving their certificates. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph to commemorate the successful completion of the programme.
