Founder of Africa’s first private aeronautics university, Isaac David Balami, has advocated deeper collaboration among private universities to strengthen research, innovation, and tertiary education in Nigeria.

Mr Balami made the call during a courtesy visit to Mohammed Kyari Dikwa, founder and president of the Al-Ansar Foundation, in Abuja.

The meeting brought together both education advocates to discuss challenges and opportunities within Nigeria’s private university sector, with emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and institutional partnerships.

Speaking during the visit, Mr Balami said private institutions must work together to drive technological advancement and develop skilled manpower capable of competing globally.

He identified aviation, engineering, science, and technology as key sectors requiring increased collaboration among universities.

Mr Balami also praised the Al-Ansar Foundation for its investments in education and humanitarian development.

Responding, Mr Dikwa said the foundation remained committed to supporting initiatives that promote academic excellence, entrepreneurship, and youth development.

He noted that private universities could help bridge existing gaps in Nigeria’s education sector through research-driven learning and strategic partnerships.

The meeting also explored areas of future cooperation, including academic exchanges, professional development programmes, technology transfer, and international collaborations aimed at improving educational standards across Africa.

Analysts say the engagement reflects increasing efforts by private sector stakeholders to support reforms and long-term development within Nigeria’s higher education system.
