A wave of fear has swept through the Zuru Emirate in Kebbi State after armed bandits carried out a deadly night attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

The attackers stormed the school late Monday night, killing the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducting several students. The exact number of kidnapped students remains unclear as authorities are still compiling details.

A resident, Murjanatu Hassan Gishiri, confirmed the incident and described the invasion as a heartbreaking tragedy that has thrown communities into panic.

“They operated freely without resistance. The entire region is in fear and mourning,” she said.

Sources within the community revealed that Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku was shot while attempting to protect students from the attackers. His killing has sparked an outpouring of grief, with residents offering prayers for his soul and comfort for his family over what they described as a painful and unjust loss.

Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the attack. Meanwhile, residents are calling for urgent government action to rescue the abducted students and strengthen security across schools and vulnerable communities plagued by banditry.
