The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has officially issued a 60-day statutory notice for the conduct of local government council elections scheduled for Aug. 17, 2026, across the state.

The announcement was contained in a press release signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Mr. Nuru Abdulhamid, and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday.

According to the statement, the issuance of the notice is in compliance with the provisions of the Bauchi State Electoral Law, which mandates the commission to notify registered political parties, stakeholders, and the general public ahead of local government elections.

BASIEC recalled that it had earlier issued a 360-day notice in August 2025 in line with legal requirements, providing sufficient time for political parties and other stakeholders to prepare for the electoral process.

The commission advised all political parties intending to participate in the elections to conclude their internal preparations and ensure strict adherence to the Electoral Law as well as guidelines issued by the commission.

It further stated that detailed timelines, procedures, and other relevant information regarding the elections would be released in due course.

BASIEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, transparent, and credible local government elections that will reflect the will of the people of Bauchi State.
