Boosting Counter-Insurgency: 157 NSCDC Personnel Graduate in Weapon Handling
In a decisive move to fortify the battlefront against terrorism and insurgency in the North East, the Theatre Command Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) marked a significant milestone on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
A cohort of 157 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel graduated from an intensive weapon handling training programme held at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
Led by the indomitable Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shaibu, the ceremony underscored the gravity of the mission at hand.
General Shaibu emphasised that beyond mastering the mechanics of weapons, the training instilled discipline, physical prowess, camaraderie, and mental fortitude, essential attributes for frontline warriors.
Such meticulous preparation, he emphasised, epitomises the ethos of professionalism, a cornerstone relentlessly pursued by the OPHK headquarters.
Acknowledging the symbiotic relationship with sister security agencies, General Shaibu hailed their collective efforts in advancing the cause of OPHK.
He stressed the imperative of elevating the proficiency of personnel across all agencies, citing the inseparable nature of the battle against insurgency and the critical need for synergy.
In his charge to the freshly minted graduates, General Shaibu urged unwavering commitment, urging them to wield their newfound expertise to its fullest potential in neutralising the threat.
Also speaking, Brigadier General Haruna Audu, the Theatre Training Officer, delineated the core objective of the training: equipping the NSCDC personnel with the trifecta of knowledge, skills, and attitude indispensable for safe and effective weapon handling in the line of duty.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the NSCDC contingent, Faruk Boyi, the Borno State Commandant, extended heartfelt appreciation to the Theatre Commander for his unwavering support.
Boyi pledged diligent utilisation of the acquired knowledge and skills, affirming their dedication to the cause.
The ceremony’s zeniths included the conferral of certificates, practical demonstrations of weapon stripping and assembling, and the immortalization of camaraderie through a group photograph.
As the sun sets on Maiduguri, the graduation heralds not just the culmination of rigorous training but also the dawn of fortified resolve in the relentless pursuit of peace and security in the region.
