Canadian-South Sudanese Model Awar Odhiang Named Model of the Year at Fashion Awards 2026
Canadian-South Sudanese model Awar Odhiang has been named Model of the Year at The Fashion Awards 2026 by the British Fashion Council (BFC), following an outstanding year on international runways and in major fashion campaigns.
The announcement was made on November 4, 2026, ahead of the award ceremony scheduled for November 30 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, United Kingdom.
Odhiang has emerged as one of the leading faces in the global fashion industry, gaining international recognition after closing designer Matthieu Blazy’s debut show for Chanel in October 2025. Her runway appearance became one of the memorable moments of the fashion season.
Throughout 2026, she has featured on eight international magazine covers and appeared in major campaigns for renowned fashion brands, including Chanel, Chloé, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Loro Piana and H&M.
Born in a refugee camp in Ethiopia to South Sudanese parents, Odhiang was raised in Canada, where she began building her modelling career before gaining international recognition.
Beyond modelling, she has also used her growing influence to advocate for greater representation and inclusion of Black models in the global fashion industry.
Reacting to the recognition, Odhiang described the award as an incredible honour, expressing gratitude to everyone who supported her journey.
The British Fashion Council said her influence extends beyond the runway, highlighting her individuality, authenticity and positive contribution to the fashion industry.
Her recognition marks another milestone for African heritage in the international fashion industry and highlights the growing global influence of models from diverse backgrounds.
The Fashion Awards 2026 will hold on November 30, where Odhiang will be formally honoured.
