COAS Visits Rivers Governor Ahead of Nigerian Army Day Celebration
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has paid a courtesy visit to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalaye Fubara, ahead of the grand finale of the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL 2026).
The visit, which took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, formed part of activities lined up for the week-long celebration, with the grand finale scheduled for July 6.
Speaking during the visit, Lieutenant General Shaibu said he was in Rivers State to participate in the Nigerian Army Day activities and expressed appreciation to the state government and its people for their support and hospitality.
He said the peaceful environment and cooperation provided by the Rivers State Government had contributed significantly to the successful hosting of the annual event.
The Army Chief also commended the state government for its continued support to the Nigerian Army, stressing that strong collaboration between the military, government and citizens remains essential in addressing security challenges and protecting critical national assets.
Responding, Governor Fubara thanked the Nigerian Army for selecting Rivers State to host the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
The governor praised Lieutenant General Shaibu for what he described as improved security in the state since his appointment as Chief of Army Staff, noting that the enhanced security situation has contributed to increased oil production and economic growth.
He also commended the Nigerian Army for its efforts in tackling insurgency, pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed the commitment of the Rivers State Government to supporting the Nigerian Army in its operations to protect critical national infrastructure, strengthen internal security and promote Nigeria’s economic stability.
