Dangote Unveils Plans for Massive Olokola Industrial, Free Trade Zone
Billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote has unveiled plans for a large-scale Industrial and Free Trade Zone at Olokola, with construction expected to begin in the final quarter of 2026.
The proposed development is designed as a fully integrated industrial ecosystem and is projected to become one of the largest industrial hubs in West Africa, with a multi-billion-dollar deep sea port at its core.
The project will feature a world-class deep sea port intended to facilitate large-scale imports and exports, ease pressure on existing ports in Lagos, and provide direct access to international shipping routes.
The industrial zone is expected to host manufacturing and processing plants, dedicated power infrastructure, a natural gas supply network, modern logistics facilities, warehousing centres, and export processing zones. It will also operate as a Free Trade Zone offering incentives to both local and foreign investors.
Key export products targeted under the development include refined petroleum products, fertilizers, petrochemicals, and other gas-based industrial outputs, positioning the zone as a major export gateway for Nigeria’s industrial output.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the project as the beginning of a new industrial era for the state, noting its potential to transform Ondo into a major destination for investment, manufacturing, and economic growth.
He added that if successfully delivered, the Olokola project could become a major economic engine for the state, similar to how the Lekki industrial corridor has driven growth in Lagos State.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost job creation, attract global investors, and strengthen Nigeria’s position in regional and international trade.
