EFCC Chairman Urges Students to Embrace Integrity, Join Anti-Corruption Fight
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has urged Nigerian students to see themselves as key stakeholders in the future of the country by embracing integrity and actively supporting the fight against corruption.
Olukoyede gave the charge on Thursday, May 2026, when students of Fairview Academy visited the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on a study tour.
Represented by the Head of the Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit of the Commission, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, Aisha Mohammad, the EFCC boss encouraged the students to become ambassadors of integrity and anti-corruption advocates in their schools, homes, and communities.
He stressed that the younger generation remains the nation’s greatest hope and urged them to uphold moral values capable of repositioning Nigeria for sustainable development.
“You are stakeholders in the future of this country. Just as your parents sacrifice to secure your future, Nigeria is also investing in you because you are the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
Olukoyede further called on the students to act as “foot soldiers” and whistle-blowers in the anti-corruption fight, noting that the EFCC cannot succeed without the support of Nigerians, especially young people.
“The EFCC cannot fight corruption alone. We need young people like you to stand up for integrity, reject wrongdoing, and speak out against corruption wherever you see it,” he added.
He also warned the students against involvement in examination malpractice, internet fraud, cybercrime, and other forms of criminal activity capable of destroying their future.
During the engagement, Deputy Superintendent of the EFCC, Abdulhameed Wodi, sensitized the students on the dangers of cybercrime and online fraud.
Wodi explained that cybercrime includes unlawful activities carried out through digital platforms and electronic devices, including identity theft, romance scams, hacking, phishing, impersonation, fake news, and online fraud schemes.
He warned that many young people become involved in cybercrime due to peer pressure, ignorance, and the desire for quick wealth, stressing that such crimes carry serious legal and social consequences.
The students were advised to protect themselves online by avoiding suspicious links, enabling two-factor authentication, verifying information before sharing it online, and exercising caution with unknown websites and online friendship requests.
Also speaking, Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Gbenga Akinwande, explained that the Enlightenment and Re-orientation Unit was created to prevent crime through public sensitization and value reorientation.
According to him, prevention remains more effective and less expensive than investigation and prosecution.
He added that the Commission regularly conducts awareness campaigns in schools and communities and also establishes Integrity Clubs to groom young Nigerians committed to honesty, accountability, and responsible citizenship.
