The Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele, has described the partnership between the National Youth Service Corps, National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG/EV) as a strategic move to equip Nigerian youths with practical and entrepreneurial skills in the growing clean energy and automotive sector.

Speaking during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Abuja, the minister said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to job creation, technical innovation, clean energy transition, and youth empowerment.

“This collaboration goes beyond the signing of documents. It is about creating jobs, building skills, and preparing Nigerian youths for emerging opportunities within the evolving economy,” Olawande said.

He noted that the government’s push for the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cheaper and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fuel has increased the need for skilled manpower in the sector.

According to him, corps members under the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme will receive hands-on training in CNG conversion and maintenance to improve employability, entrepreneurship, and financial independence.

The minister commended the NYSC, NADDC, and Pi-CNG for their commitment to expanding technical and vocational opportunities for young Nigerians nationwide.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, represented by Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Anthony Chukwuka, described the initiative as a timely intervention that would strengthen institutional collaboration and policy implementation in emerging sectors.

Director-General of the NYSC, Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, reaffirmed the scheme’s commitment to expanding the SAED programme to provide corps members with practical technical exposure.

Also speaking, the Director-General of NADDC, Joseph Osanipin, said the collaboration would accelerate local automotive innovation and help build the skilled workforce needed for Nigeria’s transition to clean energy mobility.

Chairman of Pi-CNG and EV, Ismaeel Ahmed, represented by Omo Imoukhuede, said the partnership marks a major step toward deepening CNG adoption and electric vehicle integration while creating sustainable green jobs for Nigerian youths.

Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), Titilope Gbadamosi, also reaffirmed the Presidency’s commitment to effective implementation and monitoring of youth-focused programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
