The Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, has called for stronger integration of food systems transformation and climate action, describing both as critical pillars for achieving food security, economic growth and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The minister made the call while declaring open the National Dialogue on Nigeria’s Convergence Initiative Workshop, which brought together government officials, development partners, private sector representatives, civil society organisations and other key stakeholders.

Dr. Anite-Uzoka stressed that food systems transformation and climate action can no longer be pursued as separate priorities, noting that their integration is essential to improving livelihoods, protecting the environment and strengthening the nation’s economy.

She said the National Convergence Initiative provides a strategic platform for aligning national policies, enhancing institutional coordination, strengthening data systems, mobilising sustainable financing and delivering measurable development outcomes across the country.

According to her, the initiative is expected to improve collaboration among stakeholders and accelerate Nigeria’s efforts to build resilient food systems capable of withstanding the impacts of climate change.

The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Development Plan 2026–2030, to building a climate-resilient economy that promotes inclusive growth, attracts investment and improves the quality of life of Nigerians.

She also commended the United Nations Food Systems Coordination Hub, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), UNICEF, Helen Keller International, Action Against Hunger, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and other development partners for their continued support and collaboration.

Dr. Anite-Uzoka expressed confidence that sustained partnership among government, development agencies and the private sector would transform Nigeria’s food systems, strengthen climate resilience and support the country’s long-term vision of building a $1 trillion economy.
