Former US Teacher Faces Five-Year Prison Sentence After Pleading Guilty to S3xually Abusing Student
A former teacher in New Jersey, United States, is facing a five-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a pupil who was 11 years old when the alleged abuse began.
Laura Caron, 36, previously worked as a fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School for more than a decade. Authorities alleged that she sexually assaulted the pupil between 2016 and 2020.
According to investigators, Caron gave birth to a child fathered by the victim in 2019, when the boy was 13 years old.
The case came to public attention in December 2024 after the victim’s father raised concerns in a social media post, claiming that Caron’s five-year-old daughter bore a striking resemblance to him and his son.
The concerns led to an investigation, which resulted in Caron’s arrest in January 2025. She was initially charged with offences including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Caron has now pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child involving sexual conduct under a plea agreement that includes a five-year prison term.
Under the agreement, she must surrender her teaching licence, give up eligibility for future public employment and register as a sex offender under New Jersey’s Megan’s Law. She will also be subject to lifetime parole supervision after her release.
Before sentencing, Caron is expected to undergo a psychological evaluation, which could influence the final terms of her punishment.
Her sentencing is scheduled for January 8, 2027.
