France Unveils $27 Billion Investment Package for Africa at Kenya Summit
President Emmanuel Macron has announced a $27 billion investment package for Africa during a high-level summit in Kenya aimed at redefining relations between France and the continent.
Speaking at the summit, Macron said the funding would support projects in energy transition, digital technology, agriculture, and maritime development across African countries.
The French president noted that the initiative is part of efforts to deepen economic cooperation and promote sustainable growth partnerships between Africa and Europe.
Macron also addressed France’s recent military withdrawal from the Sahel region, defending the decision amid ongoing security and political changes in West Africa.
In addition, he criticised China’s approach to critical minerals and global supply chains, warning about the risks of overdependence and unfair economic practices in strategic sectors.
The summit comes as European nations intensify efforts to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties with Africa amid increasing geopolitical competition involving China and the United States.
Analysts say Africa’s growing economic importance, youthful population, and vast natural resources have made the continent a major focus of global powers seeking stronger influence and long-term partnerships.
