FRSC, Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority Sign Five-Year Partnership to Boost Road Safety
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening regional cooperation on road safety and improving efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities across West Africa.
The agreement, signed on Friday at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, focuses on institutional collaboration, knowledge sharing, capacity building, research, data-driven road safety management, vehicle administration and enforcement. It is also expected to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to road safety.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, Mr. James Bagie Bio, described the partnership as a major milestone in the relationship between both agencies. He commended the professionalism, operational standards and technological innovations of the FRSC under the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed.
Bagie Bio said the Sierra Leone delegation was impressed by the Corps’ best practices and assured that the agreement would be fully implemented through structured engagement, regular monitoring and practical collaboration.
“This MoU will not gather dust on the shelf,” he said, pledging Sierra Leone’s commitment to achieving measurable improvements in road safety through the partnership.
Also speaking, Sierra Leone’s Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria and Deputy Head of Mission to ECOWAS, Major General (Rtd.) Dauda Alpha, praised the transformation of the FRSC, describing it as a leading road safety institution on the African continent.
He attributed the Corps’ growing reputation to the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed and noted that the agreement would strengthen regional integration and support joint efforts to save lives on African roads.
The FRSC said the partnership represents another milestone in its drive to expand international cooperation and position the Corps as a leading road safety institution in Africa.
Under the agreement, both organisations are expected to work closely on initiatives that promote safer roads, improve institutional capacity and enhance sustainable mobility across the ECOWAS region.
