Gov. Kefas Receives Nigerian Navy Team, Backs Proposed Naval Base in Taraba
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state as he received a delegation from the Nigerian Navy Headquarters on an assessment mission for the proposed establishment of a Naval Base in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area.
The delegation, led by the Chief of Administration, Rear Admiral Jonathan Nwunuji Mamman, visited the state to assess the proposed site for the naval facility, which is expected to enhance maritime and inland waterway security in the area.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Kefas described the proposed Naval Base as a landmark intervention that would significantly strengthen the security architecture of Taraba State and complement the efforts of other security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.
He noted that the presence of the Nigerian Navy in Kashimbila would not only improve security within Taraba State but also support stability across the North-East region.
The governor stressed that Taraba’s vast network of waterways requires dedicated security coverage, adding that the establishment of the naval base would provide strategic protection for the state’s water resources and surrounding communities.
Governor Kefas reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the top priority of his administration, assuring the delegation of the state government’s support for initiatives aimed at enhancing peace, security and sustainable development.
The proposed naval base is expected to strengthen inter-agency security collaboration and improve the operational capacity of security forces in addressing emerging threats across Taraba State and neighbouring areas.
