The approval was granted during a meeting at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, where the Inspector-General reviewed the programme’s implementation framework and endorsed its rollout across the country.

As part of the approval, the Police Chief also selected and approved the official Safe School Club uniform from the designs presented to him. The approved outfit, including a distinctive fez cap, will serve as the official uniform for members of the initiative nationwide.

In addition, the IGP approved the use of specially designed traffic safety banners to assist students while crossing roads to and from school, highlighting the programme’s focus on child safety and road awareness.

Speaking during the meeting, the Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to community policing and pledged full institutional support for the successful implementation of the initiative.

He commended the leadership of the PCRC, led by National Chairman, Ibraheem Olaniyan, for developing the programme and encouraged the committee to expand participation to more than 10,000 members nationwide.

The IGP also stressed the need for robust security and identification features on the approved uniforms to ensure accountability and prevent misuse. He urged the organisers to establish effective monitoring mechanisms that would guarantee proper coordination and management of the initiative across the federation.

Responding, the PCRC National Chairman expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General for supporting the initiative, describing the approval as a significant milestone in efforts to promote safety, discipline and security consciousness among schoolchildren.

He assured that the PCRC National Executive Committee would work closely with relevant departments of the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the programme.

The chairman also commended the Chairman of PCRC Rivers State, Voke, for his role in leading the IGP Special Assignment Committee, as well as the National Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative, Samuel Olaoluwa Akintoye, for his contributions toward the development of the project.

According to the PCRC, the Safe School Club Initiative is designed to enhance school safety, promote security awareness among students, encourage responsible citizenship and strengthen collaboration between schools, communities and law enforcement agencies.

The approval officially concludes the planning stage of the programme and paves the way for its implementation nationwide as part of broader efforts to foster safer learning environments and deepen community participation in security across Nigeria.
