The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to remain proactive, intelligence-driven, and adaptive in responding to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The directive was issued during the monthly strategic conference of senior police officers held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, 9th June 2026. The meeting brought together Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers to review the country’s security situation and evaluate ongoing policing strategies.

In his address, the IGP noted that Nigeria continues to face multiple security threats, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder clashes, and cybercrime. He stressed the need for improved coordination, stronger leadership, and more effective operational responses to stay ahead of criminal networks.

He emphasized that modern policing must be intelligence-led, stating that officers must anticipate threats rather than merely react to incidents.

The IGP also highlighted operational successes recorded by the Force since the last conference held in May 2026. According to him, police operatives arrested eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects, and 42 suspected cultists during various operations nationwide.

He further disclosed that 88 kidnapped victims were rescued within the same period, while security operatives recovered 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition, and 28 stolen vehicles across different states of the federation.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening internal security, protecting lives and property, and enhancing public confidence in policing operations across the country.
