The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration among traditional institutions, security agencies, and local communities to promote peace, security, and sustainable development across the country.

The IGP made the call on Monday during a working visit to Jigawa State, where he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi, attended the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council (NTRC) in Dutse, and addressed officers and men of the Jigawa State Police Command.

Speaking at the meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council, IGP Disu commended the Council, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, for its continued contributions to national unity, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.

He noted that traditional rulers remain critical partners in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, community engagement, and early warning systems, stressing that closer cooperation between traditional institutions and security agencies is essential for tackling insecurity and fostering development, particularly across Northern Nigeria.

The police chief also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working closely with the Jigawa State Government and other stakeholders to strengthen public safety and community-based policing initiatives.

Addressing officers and men of the Jigawa State Police Command, IGP Disu praised their dedication and professionalism in maintaining peace and security within the state.

He assured personnel that the Force leadership remains committed to improving operational capacity, welfare packages, career progression, and overall service delivery across the Nigeria Police Force.

The Inspector-General also addressed concerns surrounding ongoing discussions on the proposed establishment of state police, assuring officers that the reforms would not negatively affect their careers, pensions, welfare, or accrued benefits.

According to him, the proposed reform is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s policing architecture while preserving a strong national police institution capable of responding effectively to interstate and national security challenges.

“There is no cause for anxiety. The welfare, career progression, pensions, and legitimate benefits of officers will remain protected throughout any transition process,” he assured.

IGP Disu further urged officers to remain disciplined, professional, and committed to their constitutional responsibilities, warning that the Force would maintain a zero-tolerance stance against corruption, extortion, abuse of office, and other forms of misconduct.

He encouraged personnel to embrace intelligence-led policing, strengthen community engagement, and uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and respect for human rights.

The Inspector-General reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to enhancing public trust, improving operational effectiveness, and partnering with governments, traditional institutions, communities, and other stakeholders to promote peace, security, and national development.
