The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has officially launched Operation Kosaye (No Chance) in Lagos and Ogun states as part of intensified efforts to combat kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes across the two states.

The security operation, which is being supported by the Lagos and Ogun State Governments through the provision of logistics and operational resources, is designed to clear forests, border communities, criminal hideouts and other black spots used by kidnappers and criminal gangs.

Speaking during a briefing at the Police Training School, Iperu, Ogun State, the Commissioners of Police for Ogun and Lagos states, Bode Ojajuni and Tijani Fatai, said the operation has already recorded significant successes.

According to the police chiefs, security operatives rescued five victims who were kidnapped along the Ijebu Ode–Sagamu–Benin Expressway on June 25. They added that five suspected kidnappers were neutralised during operations, while four others were arrested.

The commissioners disclosed that extensive combing and clearance operations had been carried out in forests and bushes across Lagos and Ogun states, including areas bordering Ondo and Oyo states, which had been identified as potential hideouts for kidnappers and bandits.

They noted that several criminal camps, hideouts and illegal shanties used by criminal elements had been dismantled as part of the ongoing operation.

According to the police authorities, current intelligence indicates that no resident is being held captive by criminal gangs within the operational areas covered by Operation Kosaye.

The police leadership assured residents that security agencies remain committed to sustaining the offensive against criminal groups and maintaining peace and security across the region.

They also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible and timely information, particularly regarding suspicious movements or individuals with gunshot wounds seeking treatment.

The launch of Operation Kosaye is part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen internal security, improve public safety and deny criminal elements safe havens within Lagos, Ogun and neighbouring states.
