IGP Orders Nationwide Audit of Police Arms, Ammunition

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed all Commissioners of Police across the country to immediately commence a comprehensive audit of arms and ammunition within their respective Commands and formations.

The directive was issued during an emergency conference held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where senior officers and members of the press were in attendance.

According to the IGP, the audit is aimed at strengthening accountability, identifying operational gaps, preventing misuse of police assets, and enhancing the overall operational readiness of the Force.

He stressed that the exercise is not a routine administrative procedure but a critical institutional measure designed to ensure that all arms and ammunition are properly documented, secured, and optimally deployed in line with national security objectives.

Commissioners of Police have been mandated to conduct the process with transparency and professionalism, with detailed reports to be submitted to the Force Headquarters within a stipulated timeframe.

The IGP reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to ongoing reforms focused on accountability, professionalism, and effective internal control systems, as part of efforts to build a more disciplined and responsive institution capable of addressing evolving security challenges.
