IGP Reaffirms Commitment to Criminal Justice Reforms During NBA Visit

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to advancing criminal justice reforms, strengthening professionalism, and enhancing collaboration with key stakeholders in the justice sector.

The IGP made the pledge on Monday during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association led by its President, Afam Osigwe, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Members of the NBA delegation included Abdul Mohammed (SAN), First Vice President Sabastine Anya, General Secretary Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara, Chief of Staff Barbara Omosun, Salamatu Sidi, Etaba Agbor and Isaac Aduloju.

Speaking during the visit, Osigwe commended the Inspector-General for ongoing efforts aimed at improving professionalism, accountability and service delivery within the Police Force. He also reaffirmed the association’s readiness to support initiatives that promote justice, the rule of law and effective policing.

The NBA President further extended an invitation to the Nigeria Police Force to participate in the association’s forthcoming Annual General Conference.

In his response, the IGP reiterated the Force’s commitment to constitutional policing, respect for fundamental human rights and strict adherence to due process in the discharge of its duties.

Disu emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation between law enforcement agencies and members of the legal profession, noting that stronger collaboration among justice sector stakeholders is essential for improving accountability, safeguarding citizens’ rights and enhancing access to justice.

He stated that the Nigeria Police Force remains focused on improving operational standards, building public trust and ensuring that policing services are delivered in accordance with the law and international best practices.

The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships between the Police and key institutions involved in the administration of justice across the country.
