Kaduna Launches Peace Committee to Strengthen Security, Reintegration Efforts
Governor Uba Sani has inaugurated the Kaduna State Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Peace and Security Committee, marking a major step toward consolidating peace and enhancing security across the state.
The governor described the initiative as a decisive move aimed at safeguarding lives and livelihoods, noting that Kaduna has been selected as the pilot state for the programme—an indication of national confidence in its evolving security framework.
According to him, the state government has adopted a balanced strategy that combines kinetic operations with non-kinetic approaches, widely referred to as the Kaduna Peace Model. He explained that the approach recognises that insecurity often stems from deeper structural challenges such as poverty, exclusion, and limited economic opportunities.
Sani highlighted that sustained collaboration with key national security institutions, including the Office of the National Security Adviser, the National Counter Terrorism Centre, and the Armed Forces, has led to measurable progress in improving safety across the state.
He noted that intelligence coordination has been strengthened, while previously volatile areas such as the Kaduna–Abuja highway and the Birnin Gwari axis have witnessed significant improvements in security. Economic activities, he added, are gradually rebounding, with markets reopening and farmers returning to their fields.
The governor also acknowledged commendation from the National Counter Terrorism Centre, represented by Ambassador Abimbola Wonosikou, who described the Kaduna Peace Model as a framework worthy of replication.
The newly inaugurated committee, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdulkadir Muazu Meyare, comprises representatives from government agencies, security institutions, civil society organisations, and traditional and religious bodies.
Its mandate includes overseeing the rehabilitation, skills acquisition, and reintegration of individuals exiting violent groups, while fostering community trust and promoting long-term stability.
Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful and secure Kaduna State, emphasising that the goal is to create a society where citizens can live without fear and pursue opportunities for growth and development.
