Kano Governor Swears in Garo as New Deputy Governor
The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Tuesday officially swore in Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
The swearing-in ceremony, initially scheduled to hold at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, was later relocated to the Africa House within the premises.
Speaking shortly after taking the oath of office, Garo pledged to work closely with the governor to advance the administration’s development agenda. He assured residents of his commitment to promoting good governance, unity, and continuity in government policies.
“I will dedicate myself to supporting the vision of this administration and ensuring that our collective goals for the people of Kano State are achieved,” he said.
The event was attended by top government officials and key political stakeholders, including Deputy Senate President Tajudeen Abbas and former governors Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau.
Garo’s appointment follows the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who stepped down on March 27, 2026, amid political tensions, allegations of misconduct, and impeachment moves by the State House of Assembly.
Gwarzo was reported to have briefly joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before resigning from the party in May 2026.
The new deputy governor is expected to play a key role in strengthening governance and supporting policy implementation in one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states.
