The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits, describing the incident as a tragic loss to the state and the nation.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu.

According to the statement, the retired senior military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension during his captivity despite ongoing efforts to secure his release.

“The deceased retired general died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension,” the statement said.

Reacting to the development, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep condolences to the family of the late officer, describing the incident as a dark moment and a stark reminder of the urgent need to intensify the fight against criminal elements threatening peace and security.

The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the abduction are identified and brought to justice.

He also assured residents that his administration remains resolute in its determination to eradicate banditry and strengthen the protection of lives and property across Katsina State.

Governor Radda prayed for the repose of the soul of the late retired Major General and urged citizens to continue supporting security agencies in ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the state.
