Man Dies After Alleged Physical Altercation with Hotel Worker in Abuja
A man identified as Joseph Terdoo has died following an alleged physical altercation with a hotel worker at a hotel in Utako District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The FCT Police Command disclosed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after the Utako Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress report at about 5:00 a.m. concerning suspicious noise and activity on the hotel’s third floor.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, police officers were immediately deployed to the scene, where they traced the disturbance to Room 301.
On arrival, the officers found Samuel Net, a tiler reportedly hired by the hotel, with marks of violence on his body. Terdoo, a hotel staff member, was also found unconscious on the floor with multiple marks of violence.
Terdoo was immediately rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men allegedly had a disagreement that escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, Net reportedly pushed Terdoo, causing him to fall and hit his head against a wooden object before collapsing.
The police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident were ongoing.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, urged residents to shun violence and avoid taking the law into their own hands when resolving disagreements.
He encouraged residents to embrace peaceful dialogue and diplomacy in settling disputes.
The Command also urged members of the public to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or contact the police through its emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
